Poetry on the Land
Date: Sunday April 27th @ 2 p.m.
FREE TO ALL!
Location: Beacon Hill Park—Beside the Garry Oak Meadow behind the north children's playground (please see map and photos).
Join Victoria's Poet Laureate Kyeren Regehr, and Youth Poet Laureate Shauntelle Dick-Chalreson for Poetry on the Land—an afternoon of poetry, reflection, and community connection.
The event features a special welcome by Brianna Bear, Songhees Territory Welcomer, and readings by Maleea Acker (finalist for the Victoria Butler Book Prize), Fatima-Ayan Malika Hirsi (author of Everything Good is Dying), and award-winning poet and essayist, Jenna Butler.
This year’s gathering also includes music by Lex Venn, a sound practitioner who works with crystal bowls and other instruments to create restorative experiences.
Bring a picnic blanket or a folding chair and something to sip or snack on—let's create a relaxed, welcoming space together.
At the end, audience members are invited to write poems in response to the land, the poetry, the music... and then share their own words, contributing to a Community Poem celebrating our shared connection to the land.
All are welcome!
